Researchers world over have coined this term – ‘biological annihilation which comprises a study which has shockingly revealed that billions of populations of animals have been lost into oblivion, survived earlier in the world.
A ‘biological annihilation of wildlife in recent decades means a ‘sixth mass extinction’ in Earth’s history is under way and is more severe than previously feared, according to res-earch findings. Scientists analyses both common and rare species of animal world and found that billions of regional or local populations of flora and fauna, have been lost forever.
Causing leading to Catastrophe
The scientists have blamed human over population and over utilisation of resources for this crisis. It,s evi-dent that the natural balance of food chain had been destablished and that it threatens the survival of human civilization, with just a short window of time left for the mankind to do some remedial act-ion. The scientists community all over the world have synergistically joined hands and have taken a pledge to save the planet from ext-inction.
The research work published in the ‘National Academy of Science’ esch-ew, was the normally, solar tone of scientific papers and calls the mass-ive loss of wildlife “biological annih-ilation” that represents a “frightening assault on the foundation of human civilization” . Prof. Gerardo Ceballos , at the ‘Universidad National Auto-nama de Mexico’, who led the rese-arch work said, “The situation has become so bad it would not be ethical not to use strong language.
The scientists found that a third of the thousands of species losing pop-ulations are not currently considered endangered and that, up to 50% of all individual animals have been lost in recent decades. Detailed data is available for land mammals, and al-most half of these have lost 80% of their range in the last century.
The scientists found billions of pop-ulations of mammals , birds , reptiles and amphibians have been lost all over the planet , leading them to say a “sixth mass extinction” has al-ready progressed further than was thought. The rapid depletion of gree-nery and forests in planet due to reckless human greed and consum-ption of forest wealth is distinctly another cause of this tragedy.
Nearly, half of the 177 mammal spe-cies surveyed lost more than 80% of their distribution between 1900 and 2015.
United Nations and member nations do take steps to protect the forests and animal world. But, not enough. In the last one decade, the forest cover has decreased by 32%, an un-acceptable degradation which may push our planet to choke out of fresh air due to pollution along with extinction of various life forms. The solution lies in change of mi-nd set of the human beings.
Urbanization and greed for grabbing land for colonisation have ruined the planet. Strict punitive measures are required to be taken by affected countries, to protect these bounties supplied to us by the Creator.
